Summary

Chinese technology giant Alibaba has announced its plans to launch an AI chatbot called Tongyi Qianwen, which will compete with Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The chatbot will be integrated into Alibaba’s various businesses and will be capable of working in both English and Chinese. Its initial rollout will be on the DingTalk messaging app, with features such as turning meeting conversations into written notes, drafting emails and business proposals, and integration into the Tmall Genie smart speaker.

This move comes after other tech companies, including Microsoft, Google, and Baidu, have also released their own generative AI models and chatbots

Alibaba, the Chinese tech giant, has announced the upcoming release of its own AI chatbot, Tongyi Qianwen, similar to ChatGPT. The chatbot will be integrated into Alibaba’s businesses in the near future, starting with the DingTalk messaging app.

Tongyi Qianwen is capable of working in both Chinese and English and will perform tasks such as turning meeting conversations into written notes, drafting emails and business proposals, and will also be integrated into Tmall Genie, Alibaba’s smart speaker.

Generative AI has gained a lot of attention since the release of ChatGPT in November, prompting Microsoft, Google, Baidu, and now Alibaba to release similar AI models. China’s cyberspace regulator has proposed new rules for managing generative AI, with companies responsible for the legitimacy of data used to train the technology.

In a recent open letter, high-profile figures such as Elon Musk and Steve Wozniak called for the suspension of powerful AI system training, citing potential risks and concerns about the race to develop AI systems being out of control.
