A breaking gadget story is easy to share and hard to verify. Search results for a new chip, a security patch, or a product recall mix publisher homepages with cloned layouts, sponsored roundups, and domains that differ by one letter.
Readers often land on a page that looks like a newsroom: logo, headline, timestamp. The URL is the part that actually decides whether the story came from the outlet they meant to open. Clicking the first result is not a source check.
Start with the host, not the headline. Type the outlet name, then pause. Skip the first ad. Open a bookmark, an old article you already trust, or a list of official media hosts. For Korean wire services and broadcasters, a news directory is faster than guessing the English homepage from ads. JusoApp lists official news and media entry points so you can compare the host before you quote a story.
Compare the address bar character by character. A site that copies Yonhap or a public broadcaster will reuse the masthead and change the domain. If the host does not match the outlet you intended, close the tab. Do not sign in to comment or subscribe on that page.
Separate newsrooms from developer dashboards. A GitHub status page, a cloud outage console, and a newspaper homepage are not interchangeable. If the story is about a tool outage, confirm the vendor host on an IT list such as JusoApp IT tools instead of a lookalike tech blog.
Paywalls and newsletters belong on the publisher host. If a story asks you to pay on a different domain, treat it as a warning. Screenshot the URL if you need to report it. Do not paste passwords into a cloned login.
Keep one bookmark for official news hosts instead of twenty stale article links. Section URLs change after redesigns. A category page of verified media addresses is easier to reopen when a saved permalink returns an error.
Before you share a tech headline, open the official host, read the URL, and keep newsrooms separate from vendor consoles. If any step fails, do not amplify that page.
